A lack of money may jeopardize the creation of a Moscow museum dedicated to Russian composer Sergey Rachmaninoff, the head of the Rachmaninoff Society has said.
The museum is planned to be opened in the summer in a mansion in Moscow's center. The building, which is listed as a historical monument, requires major repair work.
"The restoration of the house, which is to host the future museum, will cost 40 million rubles 9$1.3 million]. That is why the restoration has been delayed," Tamara Parshina said.
She said private donations had allowed the Rachmaninoff Society to partly restore the building, but much more money is still needed to complete the restoration.
The opening of the Rachmaninoff museum will become one of the most important events in Russian musical culture, Parshina said.
Russia's only current museum dedicated to Rachmaninoff is located in the western Tambov region village of Ivanovka, in the patrimonial house of the composer's wife.
