Russia's pavilion has won a second prize at the Shanghai World Expo-2010, Russia's Expo commissioner general said on Saturday.
Vladimir Strashko said the jury of the International Exhibitions Bureau awarded the Russian pavilion for the best development of the Expo-2010 theme "Better City, Better Life."
Strashko said the prize was awarded in the A category, which includes pavilions with the largest exposition area (more than 6,000 sq m).
"The pavilion's concept and its implementation have justified themselves. We set up a task to present a new Russia through the theme 'New Russia: City and Citizen'," he said.
"We showed our country from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka and demonstrated achievements of more than 20 Russian regions," he added.
Strashko said that the Russian pavilion, which welcomed some 7.5 million visitors during the exposition, presented Russia's new innovation technologies and key trends of the country's modernization.
He added that Germany and France won the first and third prizes in the A categrory respectively, while the United Kingdom's pavilion was awarded for the best design.
Russia built an Expo pavilion this year for the first time in 20 years. The sun-shaped building comprises 12 white-and-gold towers symbolizing the 12 months of the year, and takes up an area of 6,000 square meters.
The 2010 World Expo is being held in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31, 2010. Over 200 states, corporations and international organizations are taking part and over 71 million people have visited the event since its opening.
