Seven wildfires are raging in Russia's Far East, local emergencies services said Wednesday.
"Over the past 24 hours, 25 wildfires on an area of 870 hectares have been registered in the Far Eastern Federal District," a spokesman said, adding that 18 fires have been extinguished.
The spokesman said 179 people and 40 units of equipment were used to put out the flames. Five aircraft flights were made to assess the situation.
Out of the seven fires, two are raging in the Khabarovsk Territory, and five in the Jewish Autonomous Region. There is no threat to inhabited localities and vital facilities.
An unprecedented heat wave hit European Russia this summer, sparking wildfires and severe droughts in many regions. More than 50 people died in the fires, which destroyed over 2,000 homes.
Some regions, including the Far East, continue to face fires even in fall.
