Andrei Arshavin will play the role of a "good angel" for an overweight football fan in a sports comedy entitled "I'm not Arshavin," the official website of the 29-year-old Arsenal midfielder said.
"I was invited to play a role of one of the characters in the lyrical, sports comedy of Ilya Shilovsky. The movie is called: "I'm not Arshavin," the English-language website quotes Arshavin as saying.
"It all started, as usual, in the film business, with a script. It struck me as interesting. I hope that the film will come out and the audience will like it," he added.
Under the terms of his contract, Arshavin is not entitled to reveal the contents of the movie, but the website also published an interview with Shilovsky, the screenwriter and the director of the film.
"The genre is more of an action-comedy, but I prefer to call it a football fairy tale. The plot of the story is as following: there lives an 18 year old boy Lecha Bobkov (for friends just Boba) who wants only one thing - to play football like his idol Andrey Arshavin. The tragedy of the guy is that his dream is not feasible. His weight is more than 150 kg," Shilovsky said.
"And then there's also unrequited love, a girl Boba in love with prefers another one - a slender, handsome guy, who, besides everything else, is the best striker of the local football team," he added.
In desperation, Boba turns to Andrei Arshavin's poster and cries for help, and suddenly his idol appears.
"Boba, having taken an encounter with his favorite player for a hallucination doesn't pay any attention to this meeting until the next day, when trying to play football, understands that he plays just like his idol Arshavin. In this connection his life becomes a series of dizzy adventures, where his good angel Andrey Arshavin comes to his rescue," Shilovsky said.
