Russia may bid to host the Sportaccord Combat Games in the next few years, a co-chairman of the Russian Union of Martial Arts said.

"These are the first games, but if they become a tradition, Russia may bid to host one of the next Combat Games," Sergei Kiriyenko said.

The first Sportaccord Combat Games began on Saturday in Beijing. The games, involving over 1,600 athletes representing 60 countries and regions, will run until September 4. The participants will compete in 13 martial arts disciplines including Judo, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Kendo, Taekwondo, Sumo, Karate, Aikido, Boxing, Muaythai, Wushu, Ju-Jitsu and Sambo.

The Russian team comprises 58 athletes who will compete in almost all disciplines.

After the first two days of the competition, Russia leads the overall medal count with 14 medals, followed by Japan (13) and China (10). China leads in the gold medal count, with eight golds, Russia is second with six gold medals.
