A man was jailed in Voronezh for beating to death an exhibitionist who was showing his genitals to a three-year-old boy.

The convict, Alexei Smolyaninov, was an accidental witness to the flasher’s actions, the regional branch of Rossia-1 television channel reported on Wednesday.

The exhibitionist tried to run away, but Smolyaninov caught up with him and beat him up in the street, regional prosecutors said on their website. Passers-by eventually dragged him away, but the 43-year-old exhibitionist, whose name was withheld, later died of injuries in a hospital.

Prosecutors said Smolyaninov was 23 and Rossia-1 put his age at 24. The discrepancy could not be immediately reconciled.

A district court in Voronezh, a city of 970,000 located some 440 kilometers south of Moscow, sentenced Smolyaninov to five years in a maximum-security prison on Wednesday.

The court took into account the exhibitionist’s “immoral behavior,” but also Smolyaninov’s alcoholism and previous criminal record, prosecutors said.

It remained unclear on Wednesday whether Smolyaninov, who pleaded guilty, would appeal.
