The French and German foreign ministers will pay a visit to Kyrgyzstan on Friday to estimate the situation in the impoverished former Soviet republic after bloody interethnic clashes in mid-June.
Violent clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek groups in southern Kyrgyzstan broke out in the city of Osh on June 11 and then spread to the neighboring Jalalabad region, leaving nearly 200 dead and more than 2,000 injured according to official figures.
Kyrgyz leaders admit however that the real death toll could be 10 times higher.
"German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner will arrive in the city of Osh, where they will see how refugees from Uzbekistan are treated and will consider how the situation with the humanitarian aid is handled," a spokesman for the interim Kyrgyz government said.
Kouchner and Westerwelle are also planning to meet with Roza Otunbayeva, who was approved in a recent referendum as the country's president for a transitional period until 2012, in the capital, Bishkek.
