Kazakhstan, which holds the 2010 chair of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), has proposed holding the organization's next summit in the Kazakh capital of Astana from October 29 - 30.
The proposal was made by OSCE Acting Chair and Kazakh Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev during an informal meeting of OSCE foreign ministers in the Kazakh city of Almaty. The last such summit was held ten years ago in Istanbul.
"Today we, dear colleagues, must demonstrate wisdom and responsibility and reach a consensus on the agenda, time and venue of this year's OSCE summit," Saudabayev said.
"According to the results of our preliminary consultations, an acceptable date would be October 29-30 this year, and an acceptable venue would be Astana," he added.
